A somewhat hidden gem which is one of it’s charms, known for its wide open spaces, chalk downland with many large arable farms throughout the region.
Overview
The River Wylye rises just below White Sheet Down north of Mere in the west, flowing through the popular Deverills, south of Warminster. It then heads eastwards through the pretty villages of Norton Bavant, Heytesbury, Boyton, Corton, Stockton and Wylye.
Slightly further west is the stunning countryside around Stourhead, with beautiful wooded valleys and streams, unspoilt villages with many stone properties. The Georgian Spa town of Bath is also easily accessible to the north via road or rail with extensive shopping, restaurants and culture.
Local pubs we like include:
- The Prince Leopold – Upton Lovell
- The Dove – Corton
- The Carriers – Stockton
- The Spread Eagle – Stourton
- Bird & Carter’s farm shop at Chilhampton is well worth a visit too.
Places To Visit
